Provision of Braided Cable Assemblies at SARAO Klerefontein Office Carnarvon Northern Cape

Summary:

The HERA project requires the services of a contractor to manufacture the cable assemblies described below;
A contractor is needed to collect 40 Coax cable assemblies from the SARAO Klerefontein support base. The contractor will need to supply and install tinned copper cable braid on each assembly and appropriately label each cable and then deliver the completed assemblies back to the SARAO Klerefontein support base.

• [R1] SARAO shall supply the contractor with 40 units of 15m LMR 240 cable.
• [R2] The 40 rolls of cable shall be collected from the SARAO Klerefontein support base 30°58'24"S 21°59'40"E.
• [R3] The cable is currently terminated with an SMA male connector on one end and an SMA female connector on the other end.
• [R4] The contractor shall supply 40x10m lengths of an appropriately sized tinned copper cable braid, Techflex MBN0.31SV-30 or equivalent.
• [R5] The contractor shall install 1x10m length of the braid supplied in R4 on each of the cables.
• [R6] The contractor shall supply 80x10cm lengths of adhesive lined heat shrink.
• [R7] The heat shrink in R6 shall be used to attach the tinned copper cable braid to the barrel of the SMA connector and at the other end of the braid along the length of the cable.
• [R8] Only 10m of the LMR cable receives a braided covering, the braid shall start at the SMA male connector end and terminate 10m along the length of the cable. The heat shrink from R6 shall be used to secure the braid over the cable at either end.
• [R9] Both ends of the cable shall be marked with the following text, HERA AO COAX 15m, as a prefix to a unique two-digit number, e.g. 01. Typical cable markings would be HERA AO COAX 15m 01, HERA AO COAX 15m 02... HERA AO COAX 15m 40.
• [R10] The cables shall be coiled and secured with removable strapping, such as a cable tie. The coil diameter shall not be less than 30cm and greater than 50cm. A drum is not needed.
• [R11] The contractor shall deliver the completed assemblies to the SARAO Klerefontein support base.
