Summary:
Carnarvon High School (CHS) has an aged Wi-Fi infrastructure with limited bandwidth and coverage. CHS has limited funds and is looking for a cost effective, but reliable Wi-Fi network to be installed that will give their students and staff access and coverage in classrooms and work areas.
CHS requires the professional services of a capable networking company to:
- Meet with Chantel Mathison and principal Mr Robyn to do a site visit and determine CHS’s Wi-Fi coverage, network and security requirements:
- Assess existing infrastructure and determine what can be upgraded or reused:
- Existing firewall (if present).
- Structured network cabling
- Wi-Fi Access points
- Required signal coverage area.
- Capture site map so that Wi-Fi AP requirements and positions can be determined for adequate coverage.
- Number of users and anticipated bandwidth.
- Determine existing internet connection speed (to be tested via existing Wi-Fi and via wired LAN connection connected at 1 Gbps).
- Determine location of existing servers that require network and internet connectivity.
- Determine network rack space availability and best location to install central services (network switches for APs, Firewall, UPS).
- UPS - location so that it can power network equipment and firewall to maintain internet connectivity during load shedding (up to 3 hours).
- Security solution for Wi-Fi:
- Content management - ability to block inappropriate content (adult sites, torrenting etc.).
- Ability for school staff to easily change Wi-Fi password.
- Ability to turn hotspot on and off (preferably automatically scheduled so that it’s available during school hours but not after hours).
- Assess existing infrastructure and determine what can be upgraded or reused:
- Design and plan an upgrade to the Wi-Fi and network infrastructure (and cabling, network equipment, Wi-Fi controller and firewall if necessary). Wi-Fi must support 2.4 GHz and can be 5 GHz compliant.
