The MID SKA telescope Science Processing Centre (SPC) is a bespoke data centre facility in early design phase that will host the SKAO’s (Square Kilometre Array Observatory) SKA1-MID telescope Science Data Processor (SDP) and the South African SKA Regional Centre (ZA_SRC) in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, the combined facility is also expected to host a future cluster of the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The facility shall provide all the required infrastructure to support the high-performance computing (HPC) equipment in the data centre including cooling. This facility shall be located adjacent to the existing iThemba LABS facility in Cape Town, South Africa with the satellite view as illustrated in Figure 1 below and following coordinates:
